Hanoi FC was founded in 2006 as T&T Hanoi Football Club, renamed to Hanoi T&T Football Club in 2010 and finally to its current name in 2016. The club has participated in the V.League 1 since the 2009 season.

The team play in the V.League 1, the highest level of Vietnamese football, since the 2017 season after winning the Vietnam's second tier league in the 2016 season. The club was formerly known as Cảng Sài Gòn. The team's home ground is the Thống Nhất Stadium.
